From 1982 to 1986 the Sydney Jazz Quintet toured extensively around Australia and played venues including hundreds of school concerts - it will always remain a highlight of my music career!
Ian Edwards from Christchurch, New Zealand, a dear friend and great saxophone / clarinet player, was such a major influence on my playing and listening habits. He also turned me on to Cannonball Adderley (amongst many others) way back! The Bob Alexander Big Band. There's some talent in this group! Bill Mobley on trumpet, Mark Vinci, Vinnie Ricitelli, Rich Rothenburg, Rob Middleton on saxes - Bob has a great band and a great book. I always looked forward to those summer outdoor concerts.
In 1993 I visited the wonderful Christchurch Polytech Jazz School - and again in 1999 (I could only dream about such a place when I was young). All the young musicians pictured are probably playing superbly these days - they certainly were then!
